According to Grant Barrett, a lexicographer writing in the New York Times today, "frugalista" is one of 2008's buzzwords.
Its meaning? "A person who is frugal but fashionable."
Finally, a word for the crossroads of frugality and fashion! Long-term practitioners of style on a budget must feel vindicated.



The term was coined in 1993, and made the short list of OED words of the year for 2008.
